We all have hemorrhoids but they become piles only when these masses of tissue become too big and swollen.

What causes Piles?

Piles are caused due to excessive pressure over the blood vessels around the anus. Anything that exerts pressure on the wall of the bowel can lead to stretched veins that gradually become inflamed and then take form of piles. Usually, the following conditions put pressure on the wall of bowel and cause piles:

  • Constipation
  • Pregnancy
  • Obesity
  • Aging (because the body’s supporting tissues get weaker as a person gets older)
  • Lifting heavy objects frequently
  • Persistent coughing or vomiting (these too exert pressure on walls of your bowel)
  • Sitting for longer period of time

What are the Symptoms of Piles?

As long as it doesn’t pain, you don’t pay attention to the hemorrhoids. And that’s natural. But once these hemorrhoids become piles, they may show up the following symptoms and you get aware of your piles.

  • Pain during bowel movement

Why Piles in Old Age?

Many people who don’t get to know or suffer from piles earlier in their life, get introduced to piles in old age.
